The International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica
A unique understanding of the global skin care market combined with dynamic leadership skills make Annet King an invaluable asset to The International Dermal Institute (IDI), the skin care industry’s “gold standard” for post-graduate education. She also is responsible for creating the professional classes and training materials which accompany the Dermalogica system of products at thousands of top skin care centers, spas and salons worldwide, as well as at Dermalogica’s hybrid Learning Centers in Scottsdale, AZ and Atlanta, GA.
King develops, writes, presents and monitors the success of all classes, which comprise the IDI and Dermalogica curricula. This educational content both empowers and challenges skin therapists to reach far beyond the minimal standards required for licensing in the USA, bringing the skills of American-trained therapists into closer alignment with those of their counterparts overseas. Because the IDI course load is so demanding, earning an IDI diploma greatly enhances a skin therapist’s value in the workplace. She is also responsible for overseeing many of IDI’s online initiatives including the brand website, blog, webisodes and e-newsletters. Annet also works closely with Research and Development on researching product innovation and developing state-of-the art professional treatments.
King is CIDESCO, ITEC and CIBTAC-certified, placing her in the uppermost echelon of world-class skin care professionals. She was raised and educated in the United Kingdom and brings nearly a quarter-century of skincare and teaching experience to her present role. Her passion for travel, skincare, the spa industry and her interest in holistic wellness combined with her business acumen led to an initial career as the operations director for Steiner, overseeing spas onboard several luxury cruise liners. This parlayed into extensive work in Singapore and other areas in Southeast Asia, where her professional sphere included regional training for several skin care brands and serving as Vice Principal for two CIDESCO schools in the region. In addition, she worked as a consultant with many entrepreneurial spa and skin care center start-ups across Asia.
An electrifying presenter, Annet has traveled worldwide for more than a decade as a speaker and master educator for IDI and Dermalogica, training international educators as well as skin therapists. She is regularly sought as a source by journalists to comment on skin news and science, business and treatments, ingredient and global product trends. Always in-demand as a guest for health and beauty TV and radio programs, King is also a frequent contributor to magazines, websites and blogs, is on the Advisory board for Skin Inc, Men’s Fitness magazine and a contributing editor for Refinery 29, a top consumer fashion and beauty site with one of the highest page-ranking on the web.
King currently resides in Los Angeles and works at the Dermalogica and IDI headquarters located in Carson, CA.
