5 Foods to Eat for Healthier Skin

Jan 07 2015

We spend so much time and energy focusing on the appearance of our skin, from exfoliation to masques to treatments – it’s time we focus on health from the inside out, right? Here are 5 foods we love for healthy, glowing skin!

foods

Avocado

Like we needed another excuse to eat guacamole! Not only is the healthy fat of the avocado great for your heart, it’s fabulous for your skin too – the oil is really close in composition to the natural oils of our skin, and this restorative fruit is shown to increase collagen production too.

 Olive Oil

While we’re on the topic of healthy oils, we would be remiss not to mention the healing powers of the olive. It’s an antioxidant, it’s anti-inflammatory, and the real gem is that it works both internally and topically. Applying liberally can really soothe and soften dry (see also: the chapping and cracking of winter) skin.

Tea

The air around us can be full of harmful pollutants and chemicals, all of which are being absorbed through our skin – yikes! The best line of defense in protection is the antioxidant super power of green tea. Not only does this wholesome drink protect your body from the harsh city air, tea also maximizes UV protection, and has been linked with skin cancer prevention. Peppermint tea has also been found to normalize acne-causing hormones.

Tofu

There’s a reason that tofu is such a great alternative to meat! Loaded with calcium, vitamin E and protein, tofu can slow down the loss of collagen and help maintain the skin elasticity of youth.

Nuts

Doesn’t matter which one you reach for, they’re all a great choice for your skin. Nuts have vitamin E, selenium (an antioxidant with a high mineral count), omega-3 fats and zinc – all of which jumpstart collagen production resulting in a glowing complexion.
