Cameo College originated in the 1950’s. In 1969, Salon Owners/Cosmetologists Bud and Gail Reddick sold 2 of their salons to purchase Cameo College. The college originated in Sugar House, Utah, training an average of 15 students at one time. At the time, Cameo College only offered training in Cosmetology. After operating the college for a few years, Gail recognized the need to bring Electrolysis to Utah and added Electrolysis to the programs offered. Cameo remains the only accredited school in Utah training in Electrolysis today. Bud and Gail enjoyed the educational business for many years. Bud left the business to open an automotive company in the late 70’s.

Brenda Scharman (Bud and Gail’s daughter) became a licensed Electrologist at the young age of 18. For the next several years, Brenda practiced as an Electrologist.

In 1986, Gail passed away, leaving Cameo College to Brenda. She believes that no dream is too large. Since owning the college, Brenda has added the following: Nail Technology, Microblading/Permanent Cosmetics, Makeup Artistry, Laser Technology, Master Esthetics as well as a Medical Esthetics Division to the courses the college offers.

Brenda also plays an instrumental role in the beauty profession within not only the State of Utah, but across the Nation in Legislative Action.

Brenda’s daughter (Rickie Mehl) is a licensed professional as well as educator in all programs Cameo College offers. She successfully balanced a professional, independent Salon/Spa practice for over 17 years, as well as educating at Cameo College since 1990. In 2015, Rickie closed her private practice as the demands and her love for the family business grew. Rickie as School Director and Education Director is also part of the Educational team in all programs the college offers. Rickie specializes in Microblading/Permanent Cosmetics Education as a certified Softap Permanent Cosmetics Educator, as well as Cosmetology, Nails, Electrolysis and all branches of Esthetics.

With the help of the dedicated team of nearly 40 employees, Cameo has become and continues to be, a leader in the Beauty Industry.
